On June 5, 2017 Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates cut off diplomatic ties with Qatar. Eventually releasing a list of demands, the diplomatic row has left the Gulf Cooperation Council in crisis.

Please join the World Affairs Council-Washington, DC as we host His Excellency Sheikh Meshal bin Hamad M.J. Al Thani, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the United States. He will address the current diplomatic crisis that Qatar is experiencing.

Ambassador Al Thani became the Ambassador of Qatar to the U.S. in December 2016. Prior to this appointment Ambassador Al Thani served as the Ambassador to France from November 2013 to October 2016. He is a career diplomat who has spent most of his professional life has a part of the Foreign Service of Qatar.

Bill McCarren, chairman of the World Affairs Council- Washington, DC Board of Directors’ Global Communications Committee, and Executive Director of The National Press Club, will serve as discussant.
